Strategic Planning, The Role of OVCN: Gary MacDonald

This interactive workshop will provide several tools to assist in strategic planning, such as the Balanced Scorecard approach, SWOT Analysis and the Soar process. These tools will be applied to determine the role of the OVCN and give a framework for Volunteer Centres to use in their own future strategic planning.

Building the Case For Support: Jackie Jones

This session includes, ‘Identifying the Case’, ‘Top 10 Reasons to Give’, and ‘FAQs’. Attendees will learn how to create a central document, called The Case for Support, that clearly indicates the importance of your volunteer centre within your community, and indicates the need for support by local businesses. It is a useful tool that can be used in many ways crucial to the sustainability of funding.

Developing a Comprehensive Fundraising Strategy: Gary MacDonald

Using your Case For Support, Gary will talk us through soliciting potential donors through various fundraising methods such as Special Events, Direct Mail, Crowd Funding, Online Giving, Board Engagement, and Staffing

Securing Sustainable Funding: Jackie Jones

Jackie will explaining the importance of stewarding your new donors to ensure retention, and identifying potential growth of support from existing donors.

Q&A Session With Jackie and Gary

In this final session Jackie and Gary will host a group question and answer session. All attendees are encouraged to ask any questions that may benefit the entire group.

Unstructured Volunteer Centre’s Networking Session

​This is an opportunity for all Volunteer Centres staff, members and stakeholders to mingle, meet new friends, and build new relationships. Although this session is unstructured, Jackie Jones and Gary MacDonald will be available to answer questions/offer advice on an individual or small groups basis.

Honourable Minister Laura Albanese, Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration 
Minister Albanese currently serves as Minister of Citizenship and Immigration. She has served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance and to the Premier, as well as to the ministers of Municipal Affairs and Housing; Culture, Tourism and Sport; and Labour. Prior to becoming an MPP, Albanese enjoyed a career spanning more than two decades in broadcast journalism. She was best known as co-anchor of OMNI News: Italian Edition, a one-hour daily Italian-language newscast.

Anne Day, Founder, Company of Women 
Anne Day has had an eclectic career from running charities, to working for government on women’s issues to being editor of a national magazine, and having her own consulting practice. Thirteen years ago she started the award-winning Company of Women, an organization that supports, educates and connects women in business. Today, Company of Women has ten chapters including one in Manitoba. The organization hosts over 100 events a year. She is the author/editor of four books on women and entrepreneurship and a regular columnist with the Huffington Post. Anne has won numerous awards for her work including Entrepreneur of the Year, Oakville, the TIAW World of Difference Award and in 2015 was named one of the top ten most influential women in diversity and HR by Diversity Canada.


Gary MacDonald
Gary brings 42 years of experience in non-profit leadership and is known for his ability to inspire and motivate clients to achieve excellence in their own work and enhance the performance of their organizations. Gary is a dynamic facilitator with extensive proficiency developing communication and leadership competency skills with individuals and groups. His clients include leaders in government, business and the non-profit sector. In the fundraising arena, he coaches non-profits and their leadership in achieving higher levels of quality connectedness with their partners (donors), generating real results. Gary loves 3 things: his wife & family, non-profits, and movie theatre popcorn (with real butter). Gary is Founding Partner at Clearview Consulting in Stirling, Ontario. He leads a team of 8 professional facilitators. Gary also serves as Allied Counsel with KMA Consultants in Toronto and is a Facilitator at Loyalist Training and Knowledge Centre in Belleville.

Jackie Jones
Jackie is a Senior Consultant/Trainer and development specialist with The Dennis Group Inc., bringing over 27 years of fundraising experience to her role. Her expertise in identifying, cultivating and soliciting prospects in campaigns throughout North America and Asia has been recognized with several awards. She has served on numerous fundraising boards, and been a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Canadian Association of Gift Planners, and other non-profit organizations.

Tamara Malone
With over 28 years experience in the corporate marketing and communications sector, Tamara has built up a broad range of outreach skills across a variety of technologies and industries. Her roles have included strategic and operational planning, stakeholder relationships, building brands, campaign development, media and public relations.

Sandeep Aujla
Sandeep is a Leadership Advisor and Change Management Expert leading Multilevel Leadership Consulting (MLC), which is in the business of helping leaders and organizations develop and enhance their change leadership capacity and capabilities. Sandeep has held progressive leadership positions over the last 12 years in leadership development, learning, and organizational development in both public and private sector organizations. Sandeep is a skilled facilitator who creates safe space for meaningful dialogic interventions that yield synergistic actionable solutions. She also teaches undergraduate, graduate, and executive education courses in Business and Psychology at multiple universities across Ontario.
